Octa Mae Tidwell Bennett

Octa Mae Bennett passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the age of 90 years 9 months 12 days in Durant, Oklahoma. She was born on Saturday, October 2, 1920 to Frank E. Tidwell and Gladys (Savage) Tidwell in Idabel, Oklahoma. Octa Mae married Vesta J. (Bud) Bennett on Saturday, August 1, 1942.

She was a faithful member of the Fairview Baptist Church. Octa Mae was called to teach the ladies class for many years at both the Bible Baptist Church and Fairview Baptist Church. Her passion was teaching. Octa Mae was a dedicated school teacher for 40 years.

Octa Mae is survived by son, Ron Bennett of Durant, Oklahoma and brother, Fred T. Tidwell of Albuquerque, New Mexico as well as many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Bennett is preceded in death by her husband, Bud Bennett; her parents, Frank and Gladys Tidwell; brothers, Henry D. Tidwell, Genoa (Joe) Tidwell, and C. Franklin Tidwell.

Family Hour will be 7-8 P.M. Monday, July 18, 2011 at Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home.

Services will be this Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at the Fairview Baptist Church, Durant, Oklahoma with Rev. Bill Ledbetter officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Durant, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Bragg, David Russell, Jimmy Corbin, Don Bennett, David Coxsey, and Harold Garrard.

Octa Mae’s family has requested that memorials be made to the Fairview Baptist Church, Durant, Oklahoma.
