Bronaugh Bass, 95, former resident of Durant, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Eufaula Manor Nursing Home, Eufaula, Oklahoma. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Highland Cemetery, Durant, Oklahoma. Bro. Dave Smith will officiate. Born Friday, October 24, 1913, in Idabel, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Henry C. & Sue Belle Morris. She married Amos K. Bass, Jr. on May 16, 1937, in Durant and he preceded her in death on June 29, 1976.
Bronaugh spent all of her married life in Durant and was very active in the First Presbyterian Church. Her life was devoted to caring for her family. After the death of her husband, she moved to Seminole, Oklahoma, where her daughter lived, and then to Oklahoma City, where she lived for ten fun filled years. As her health began to fade, she moved to Burgundy Place and then Van Buren House in McAlester and finally to Eufaula Manor, where she spent the remaining two years of her life. She was a member of several garden clubs and P.E.O. She loved music and attended the Oklahoma City Philharmonic concerts with her many friends while living in Oklahoma City.
Bronaugh was preceded in death by her parents and sisters: Thelma Clack, Una Baird, Edwina Turner, Mildred Terry, and Marybeth Dodd.
She is survived by a daughter, Susanne Bain and partner Karen Weldin, and a son, Ken Bass and wife Becki. Also, four grandchildren: Alan Bain and wife Piper; David Bain and wife Janelle; Cory Bass and wife Jennifer; Kendall Bass- Aguailar and husband David; along with four great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the First Presbyterian Church 501 N. 15th Ave.; Durant, OK 74701. Condolences may be sent to the family at dhfh@communicomm.com. Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
