Terry Clinton Whisenhunt was born on July 12, 1937, to Carlie Clinton and Thelma B (Phillips) Whisenhunt in Caddo, Oklahoma. Terry graduated from Caddo High School in 1956. He met and married Lucretia Faye "Dottie" (Fuller) Whisenhunt on March 20, 1965, in Soper, Oklahoma. Terry worked for Peabody for many years and then worked in Silo Elementary School as a custodian and bus driver.
Terry and Dottie both entered in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in Durant, Oklahoma, and immediately became active members of Brown Baptist Church. Terry taught Sunday School and Training Union, worked in Vacation Bible School, drove the church van, and served as deacon. He loved leading music and singing with the congregation at Brown Baptist Church.
Terry was very committed to getting children to church. Before the church had a van, it was common for him to drive around Silo or Brown gathering up children in his Dodge station wagon. Once the church had a van, he continued gathering up kids to go to church; he was just able to get a few more in one trip.
Terry and Dottie had two sons, Timothy Clay Whisenhunt and Clinton Craig Whisenhunt. They had great times going to church, Fuller family reunions, showing and raising pigs, and playing baseball. Terry was an active community member committed to making his home a safe space for all. He welcomed all into his home, including two daughters-in-law, Sherri (Fouse) and Glenne "Haswell". Terry and Dottie were known for sharing whatever they had with whomever needed. Terry was slow to speak and slow to anger and rarely said a harsh word.
The joys of his life were his grandchildren: Tyler Clinton and wife, Virginia; Cullen Craig and fiancee, Adeline; Thomas Clayton and wife, Felicia; Kali Taryn; and Larissa Janae Hofeld and husband, Caleb. He spent hours playing with them, exploring the farm in Cobb, and laughing together. Dottie passed away on November 18, 2000, after a battle with cancer.
Later in life, Terry was fortunate to meet Ima Jean Evans. Terry and Ima were married on June 21, 2008. They had a wonderful life together spending time with grandkids, watching baseball games, and laughing together. Through this marriage, Terry gained three children, Paul Watts, Curtis and Christy Evans, and Pearlie Stone. He was also blessed to gain additional grandchildren: Carrie Faye Henson, Daniel Stone, Colby Henson, TC Evans, Morgan Stone, Macie Stone, Charity McKimmy and husband Eli, and Tyler Evans. He also greatly enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchild, Sutter John.
Surrounded by family, Terry passed from this world on May 24, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlie and Thelma, and first wife, Dottie. He is survived by his wife Ima of the home, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and a host of family and friends.
The family is grateful for the care and support provided by Victory Home Health and Hospice and for friends throughout Caddo and Durant who ensured his final years were full of love and laughter.
