Donald Ray Self 85, of Caddo, Oklahoma was called to his Heavenly home Thursday February 1, 2018 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. Donald Ray Self was born on Oct. 22, 1932 in Selfs, TX to Alvin Ira (Dutch) Self and Rhuie Mae Cox Self. He lived most of his life in Caddo and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He also worked as a welder in Sherman and Durant.
He enjoyed music, deer hunting, fishing, friends and telling about his life experiences in the Navy. He had a way of making others feel better with a warm welcome and an occasional funny joke. Mr. Self was a farmer and often had great advice on on how to cut hay and manage cattle. He enjoyed western movies and sitting on the front porch and always had a smile and wave for anyone that passed by. He loved his overalls, a nice western shirt, a sharp pair of boots and spurs and hat.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dutch and Rhuie Self, Wife Ola Mae and Step-Son Jerry. Brothers Clarence Self, Cleo Proctor and Kenneth Self. Sister Mildred Mitchell.
A Funeral Service for Donald Self will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday morning February 5, 2018 at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Caddo with Brother Anthony Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be Bill Proctor, Ronnie Proctor, Jerry Proctor, Mack Self, Kevin Self and Hunter Self. Honorary Pallbearer Glen Self.
Burial will follow in the Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo.
