Mary Lou “Ludy ” Roberts of Durant, Oklahoma was born June 13, 1942 in Welch, Oklahoma to parents Leroy Melvin Studebaker and Charlotte Berenice Gecks. She passed away Friday, June 25, 2010 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 68 years and 1 month. She married Ralph Roberts on June 30, 1967 in Tahlequah, OK. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2000.
Her hobbies included photography, horseback riding, and collecting of all kinds. Activities included helping and befriending those less fortunate or with special needs, and also she sponsored many school activities while she was a teacher. Her teaching career spanned from 1967-2000. She taught in schools in New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. Her main focus was speech therapy, but she also taught special education. She loved her students and watching them struggle to have success made her feel she had a great part in molding their lives. She always lived with the motto "Anything is possible with faith in yourself."
Ludy as she was known by her friends and family is survived by her son Gary Roberts of Durant, Oklahoma, daughter & son-in-law: Sheri & Rendell Whitehead of El Dorado, Arkansas, grandsons Tyler Roberts of Tyler, Texas, Thomas Whitehead & Wife, Desiree of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Kendell Whitehead, of El Dorado, Arkansas, granddaughter Rendi Stephens & husband, Justin of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Kourtnie Whitehead of El Dorado, Arkansas, brother David Studebaker & Wife, Holly of Dallas, Texas, Aunts Lou Cooley of Bedford, Texas,and Gene Sickles of Denison, Texas, Uncle John Edward Gecks and Wife, Wilma of Durant, Oklahoma and Numerous Cousins as well as many other relatives and friends. She preceded in death Parents; Leroy Melvin Studebaker & Charlotte Berenice Fairchilds, stepfather, Murline Fairchilds; Husband, Ralph Roberts; Granddaughter, Jenny Lynn Roberts; grandson, Christopher Kevin Whitehead.
Services will be held , 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 29, 2010, Holmes~Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home 121 N. 5th ST, Durant. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery Caddo, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be Scotty Gecks, Paul Studebaker, Mike Studebaker, John Charles Cooley, Tommy Hodge, Kendell Whitehead, Ray Bothell, and Bruce Sickles.
