Roxie was born in Freeny Valley on November 29, 1926 to Mack and Lola Mae (Price) Ammons. Roxie was the oldest of eleven brothers and sisters.

Roxie – MeeMaw, as she was lovingly known- started the first grade at Buffalo school in northeastern Bryan county. She and little brother Leroy rode a horse to and from that little school east of Caddo until the family moved after the third grade and Roxie then attended the Franklin school also near Caddo. Roxie attended the Franklin school until the eighth grade. While at Franklin one of Roxie’s school mates was a dashing young man that would one day be her life long love and husband, Sam Parks. Roxie then went on to graduate from Caddo High School in 1945. That handsome young man that she went to school with at Franklin was not able to continue school having to work the farm as many did in those days, but Sam and Roxie did not live far from each other and found the time for a budding romance. The two love birds rode a bus to Sherman, Texas and was married on a Monday morning February 3, 1947. The newlyweds moved to Amarillo, Texas for awhile before moving back to Caddo. While living in Caddo in 1951 the couple had their only child, Ronald Wayne. Sam’s jobs took the young family to Oklahoma City and then Sherman, Texas where Sam worked in wholesale sales. Sam, Roxie and Ron then opened “Dixie Discount Center” in Okmulgee in 1965. After sale of the business in 1970 Sam and Roxie moved back to Bryan County settling on Sawmill Road where they spent the remainder of their joyful days fishing, having garage sales and going to auctions, but mostly enjoyed spending time with children, family and friends.

Roxie was of the Baptist faith. As a young girl she was baptized in Bois d’arc Creek near Matoy. Roxie joined the congregation of Robinson Baptist church in 1956.

Roxie “MeeMaw” always said that she wanted to be remembered as a loving and caring mother. And that she was all her life to all those she loved.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Parks; mother and father, Mack and Lola Mae Ammons; brothers, Leroy Ammons, Dolphus Ammons; sisters, Susie Cates and Dorothy Parker.
