Martha Faye Weibling Brister

brister-m-f

March 15, 1940 ~ February 4, 2025

Martha Faye was born at home in Durant Oklahoma on March 15, 1940, to Dudley S and Ruby Faye (Weibling) Tucker. She attended schools at Durant and graduated from Durant High School in 1959. Martha then met the love of her life, Donald Gene Brister at Sherrers Drive In in Durant in December of 1959. When he saw her, he said she was the prettiest girl he had ever seen and was going to marry her someday. He finished college, taught school for one year then married Martha on August 10, 1962, in Caddo. They moved to Oologah, OK soon after. Martha and Don were married 55 1/2 wonderful years before he passed in January 2018. Martha was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great grandma. She is survived by her children: Donna Marie Brister Adams, (husband Frank) of Claremore, Ok and Darrell Glenn Brister, (wife Tracie Price) of Denison Tx. Martha was a proud Grandmother of Ariel Elaine Adams Carnes (husband Jacob) of Joplin, MO, Aaron David Adams (wife Faith) of Claremore, Ok, Abigail Grace Adams of Oologah, Ok. And Andrea Eads, Denison Tx.

In recent years she became a loving Great Grandma to Ophelia Drew Adams and Isaac Warren Adams of Claremore, twins Claire Hope and Owen Shepherd Carnes of Joplin, MO. Family was very important to her, and she was close to her remaining living sister Ruby Helen Ingram as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents as well as her brother, OL Tucker, sisters Jewel (PeeWee) Rowland, Mozella Amos, Ruth Ann Russell and brother Dudley Jr (Popeye) who died in infancy and sister Kate who died at 8 years old. She spoke of them often. In addition, she had a special place in her heart for family friends James and Bettye Lester of Durant, OK Marshal and Hunter Tolley of Talala, Ok and Deana Clanton Eden of Oologah, OK.

Martha drove a school bus at Oologah Schools for many years until her retirement in the mid-1990s. She loved to make special homemade treats for her coworkers, neighbors and friends. She especially loved to fry fish for Don's fishing buddies throughout the years. In their retirement years Don and Martha became beekeepers and loved selling local honey until Don's health declined. In Martha's final years she took over the telephone duties of her late sister Ruth Ann and enjoyed talking to relatives near and far on the phone. Another joy was discovering Facebook and being able to reconnect with dear old friends, such as Marcell Simpson Bink and former Durant High School classmates. She also enjoyed bus trips throughout the country with her sister Ruby Helen for a time as well as many "girl trips" with all her sisters when younger.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday February 10, 2025, at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel 4900 W US Hwy 70 Durant, OK 74701. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo next to her beloved husband Don. Pallbearers will be her nephews Dudley, Tommy and Johnny Rowland, Johnny Tucker and Kenneth Ingram.
