William "Sam" Sorrell, a longtime resident of Bryan County passed from this life in Sherman, Texas on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 20 days. He was born in the West Texas Community of Tahoka on Friday, August 31, 1928 to William Jess and Madeen Pruitt Sorrell.

Sam married his sweetheart Ima Jean "Sis" Wallace in Denison, Texas on Saturday, May 22, 1948. They were partners in life for 65 years.

Sam lived in Southeastern Oklahoma since 1938.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Colbert, Oklahoma where his father was a song leader for many years.

Sam helped transport the children of his community as a bus driver for the Colbert School District.

He was a man who loved the land and spent his life caring for it and his animals as a Farmer, Rancher and Dairy Farmer.

Mr. Sorrell is survived by his wife, Ima Jean "Sis" of the home; son, William Samuel "Jr." Sorrell, Jr. of Cartwright, Oklahoma; daughter, Bonnie Gregory and husband Warren of Atoka, Oklahoma; grandson, Lonnie Wayne Gregory of Cartwright, Oklahoma; brothers, Kenneth Sorrell and wife Delores of Colbert, Oklahoma and Thural Sorrell of Colbert, Oklahoma.

Mr. Sorrell was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Madeen Sorrell.

The family respectfully request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Colbert First Baptist Church Building Fund, Colbert, Oklahoma, 74733.

Family Hour will be from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A Funeral Service in honor of his memory will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Colbert First Baptist Church with Dr. Roddy Arnold officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories in Colbert. Serving as pallbearers will be Woodie Alexander, Andy Goodson, Floyd Key, Bob Krueger, Bill Markham, Les Roberts and Sammy Sorrell, Jr.
