G. W. Shields age 93 of Cartwright, Oklahoma passed away in Colbert, Oklahoma at the Southern Pointe Living Center on Friday, January 21, 2011. Mr. Shields was born March 2, 1917 to Grover Brookson and Nora (Frizzell) Shields.

G. W. was a farmer and worked for Vita Way feed mill in Denison, Texas. He was a member of the Baptist faith. Mr. Shields served in the Army. He also loved raising coon dogs and other animals.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Colbert, Oklahoma. Steven Sweeney and Darren York will be officiating.

Family hour will be from 6 to 7 PM Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma.

He is survived by his daughters, Nora Faye Sweeney and husband Hoyt of Cartwright, Oklahoma, Barbara Hall of Brenham, Texas; brothers, Claude Earl Shields and wife Margaret of Denison, Texas, D. E. Shields and wife Mary Lou of Denison, Texas; sisters, Dollie Fitch of Cartwright, Oklahoma, Betty Logston of Kansas; grandchildren, Steven Sweeney and wife Kim of Fairview, Texas, Lisa York and husband Darren of Corpus Christi, Texas, Angel Hall of Brenham, Texas, Lori Pecor of Brenham, Texas; 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Grover Brookson and Nora Cline; sisters, Gladys Calhoun, Frances Carey and Doris Shields; brother, Junior Shields.
