WJ Porterfield Jr, known affectionately as Dub to his friends and loved ones, passed away on November 4, 2024, at the age of 83 in Colbert, Oklahoma. Dub was born on June 29, 1941, and dedicated his life to his family, his faith, and his community.
Dub was a steadfast Christian, worshiping and serving at Platter Baptist Church in Platter, Oklahoma. He was a beloved family man, survived by his wife, Della Porterfield; his son, James Porterfield; grandchildren, Ashley Porterfield, Whitney Shearin, Jonathon Graham; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Ann Porterfield, and son, Randall Dale Porterfield.
Educated locally, Dub attended primary school in Claypool and high school in Ringling, Oklahoma, before earning a degree from Southeastern State University. He then went on to establish and operate Dub's Appliance Service from January 1, 1970, until his retirement on June 1, 2014. His business not only served the community but also provided a gathering spot for friends and neighbors.
An avid outdoorsman, Dub cherished the time he spent hunting, fishing, camping, playing sports, and hunting for arrowheads. His love for the outdoors was only matched by his commitment to helping others, always ready to lend a hand, whether or not it was sought.
Graveside services will be held at the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Colbert, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024, at 1:00 PM with burial to follow under the direction of Cunningham Funeral Home. Dub's life and legacy will be remembered by all who knew him as a pillar of strength, kindness, and dedication.
