John Metts was born in Livingston County Missouri on May 5, 1851 and died May 24, 1933 in Durant Oklahoma while visiting sons there. He was buried in Cox Chapel Cemetery in Durant.

He was married to Annie Elizabeth Ogden Metts and she survives him. To this union was born 10 children and eight of them survive him. Two daughters, Mary and Martha preceded him in death before they reached the age of 10.

He is survived by his wife, Annie of the home in Coleman Texas; three daughters, Cora, Alice, and Margie; and five sons, George, Amos, Ulyssis, Claude and Gayley.

He was watching a train pass with his family , laid back and he was gone.
