John Arlin Simmons

John Arlin Simmons, a veteran of the United States Army, and resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed away in Sherman, Texas on April 20th, 2019 at the age of 82. He was born in Bokchito, Oklahoma to Floyd Wilber Simmons and Juanita Marie Risner on June 22nd, 1936. A graveside memorial service will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday May 1st at the Bokchito Cemetery in Bokchito, Oklahoma.

John died peacefully in his sleep. He loved the New York Yankees, he started listening to them as a boy because his family did not have a TV. John loved playing basketball and boxing. His favorite job was driving a bread truck for Fenny Bakery and Wonder Bread. He also had his own paint company. For many years he coached baseball in the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce where he took players that no one else wanted and made them play as a team not as individuals. John served his county in the Army from 1955-1957 while deployed to Germany as a Sgt. 1st Class.

Simmons is survived by his son, John F. and Teresa Simmons of Red Oak, Texas: daughter, Sandra K. Koerner of Arlington, Texas: son, Wayne and Michelle Simmons of Wylie, Texas: 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren: sister, Connie Bjelke of Sache, Texas: cousins, Jr. Bunderant of Bokchito, Oklahoma: uncle, Roy Cecil: and cousin, Tippie.

Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents: both wives, Imogene Hammel Simmons and Betty Henry Simmons: sister, Ruby Simmons Holly: and daughter, Cynthia Diane Simmons Rice: and cousin, Mackie Bunderant.
