Richard Don Gilbert, a longtime City employee and resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life in Denison, Texas on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the age of 51 years 5 months and 27 days. He was born on Monday, August 24, 1964 in Bonham, Texas to Jerry Don and Betty Sue (Phillips) Gilbert. Richard married Brandy Nichols in Durant, Oklahoma on March 23, 2013.
Richard worked for the City of Durant for almost 20 years. He took great pride and pleasure from the Roosters he raised. Richard enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. He loved to take off on his motorcycle whenever he could. Richard had a great personality that often made him the center of attention. His family was his life and he cherished them and the time they spent together.
Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Brandy Gilbert of the home; children, Misty Owens and husband Blu of Calisburg, Texas; Rashelle Gilbert of Durant, Oklahoma, Aron Gilbert and fiancé Kera Lewis of Durant, Oklahoma, Kaitlyn Robinson of Durant, Oklahoma, Justin Nichols of Durant, Oklahoma and Travis Nichols of Durant, Oklahoma; mother, Betty Gilbert of Durant, Oklahoma; sister, Lisa Gilbert of Durant, Oklahoma; brother, Marty Gilbert and wife Caitlin of Grandfield, Oklahoma; and grandchildren, Jurnee Marie Gilbert of Texas and Cora Jae Gilbert of Durant, Oklahoma; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Gilbert.
Family Hour will be from 6-7:00 PM Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Chapel with Bro. Will Arington officiating. Interment will follow at Bokchito Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aron Gilbert, Blu Owens, Jerrett Gilbert, Erol Iscimenler, Jared Iscimenler, Terri Cason and Clint Nichols. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Justin and Travis Nichols.
