Rayburn (Ray) Burns a resident of Mead, Oklahoma passed away in Durant, Oklahoma on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the age of 74 years 9 months and 13 days. He was born in Blue, Oklahoma on Wednesday, February 23, 1938 to Homer F. and Alma L. (Fulcher) Burns.
Ray loved the land and spent most of his life as a rancher. He would spend many hours watching his cattle, dogs and birds. Ray worked for the City of Durant as a park superintendent for 19 years and the Dension Cottonmill for 18 years. He was a member of the Bokchito Church of Christ.
Ray lived in Bryan County most of his life and graduated from Bokchito High School.
Mr. Burns is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; sons, Rocky Burns and wife Frances of Denison, Texas and Roy Burns and wife Lavonda of Milburn, Oklahoma; step-son, David Williams and wife Patty of Durant, Oklahoma; sister, Shirley Henderson and husband Larry of Durant, Oklahoma; brother, Wilburn Burns and wife Chris of Bokchito, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Alma Burns; granddaughter, Meranda Williams; in-laws, Roy and Opal Page.
Family Hour will be from 7-8:00 PM on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Bokchito Church of Christ in Bokchito, Oklahoma with Bro. Johnny Franks and Bro. Preston Burns officiating. Interment will follow at Bokchito Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Measles, Kenneth Fletcher, Terry Carr, Clint Horner, Victor Reyes and Charles Akins. Honorary Pallbearers are Ricky Mote, Ted Dosh and Jessie Thomas.
