Carl Lee Burns a resident of Bokchito, Oklahoma left this life too soon and joined his Lord and Savior in Paradise on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the age of 54. He was born in Bokchito, Oklahoma to Leo Forrest and Ruth (Harris) Burns on May 7, 1961. Carl married his best friend Sonja Sutton in Bokchito, Oklahoma on September 1, 1990.
Carl was a truck driver by profession for 31 years logging over 2 million miles. He loved traveling with his family and Carl visited 49 of the 50 states. Carl enjoyed being with his sons, hunting, fishing, camping and especially target shooting. He also liked westerns and reading a good book.
Carl is survived by his wife, Sonja of the home; sons, Derick Burns of Bokchito, Oklahoma and Justin Burns and fiancé Maurica Eshom of Chester, Nebraska; sister, Patsy Stafford and husband Floyd of Tushka, Oklahoma; nieces, Lori Hill and husband Brian of Durant, Oklahoma and Misty Hobbs and husband John of Kenefic, Oklahoma; nephew, Brian Smith and wife Rhonda of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; 6 great-nieces and nephews; and many other friends and family.
Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ruth Burns; and sister, Leota Simmons.
The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Carl Burns Memorial Fund at the First United Bank.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 4-5:00 PM Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A church service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, January 4, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Bokchito, Oklahoma with Landon Jestis and Ross Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at the Bokchito Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Danny Thomas, Glen Wilson, James Heflin, John Holcomb, Billy Dawson, Gary Deel, Johnny Bundrant and Davey Fanning.
