Dan Brackett passed from this life on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at his home in Bennington, Oklahoma at the age of 95. He was born on December 30, 1926, in Bokchito, Oklahoma to Claude and Ora Mae (Sparks) Brackett.
Dan was a hard worker his whole life and had a variety of jobs: he worked in Roswell, New Mexico on a sheep ranch, Grandfield, Oklahoma in the oil fields, and for as time in Bokchito as a bus driver and Bryan Co. Precinct 3 as a truck driver and mechanic, and a security guard at Potters Sausage. Dan was a farmer and rancher who spent his whole life working the on his farm and tending to the fields. He was a gentle soul who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Left behind to cherish Dan’s memory are his wife, Barbara, of the home. Stepdaughters Toni Gittens and husband Greg of Sherman, Texas and Leisa Lozano of Bokchito, Oklahoma, and one sister Lorene Thompson of Bokchito, Oklahoma, along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding Dan in death are his parents Claude and Ora Mae Brackett, his three children Kathy, Davey, and Carolyn. His brothers Delbert, Buddy, C.R. and Wayne, sisters Bertha and Lillie Mae, and his children’s’ mother, Hazel L. Gordon Brackett.
Family hour will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022, from 6-8:00pm, at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. Funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church Bennington in Bennington, Oklahoma on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 11:00am with Bro. Jay Perry officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Johnson, Tracy Johnson, Terry Brackett, Joshua Short, John Hale, and Austin Gittens. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Thompson and Greg Gittens. Interment will immediately follow in the Bokchito Cemetery in Bokchito, Oklahoma.
