Bill Barnes a resident of Bennington, Oklahoma passed from this life on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in his hometown at the age of 77 years 4 months and 18 days. He was born on Saturday, October 26, 1935 in Roberta, Oklahoma to W.L. Barnes and Wanda Louise (Williams) Barnes. Bill married Gayle Lemmons in Bennington, Oklahoma on Saturday, November 24, 1956.

Bill was very active after he retired. He went bowling whenever he could and at 70 years of age he bowled a perfect game on Gayle’s 70th Birthday. Bill enjoyed gardening, making gourd birdhouses and watching sports. But more than anything else he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Gayle Mae of Bennington, Oklahoma; son, Phillip Robert and wife Mary Jane of Frisco, Texas; grandson, Gabriel Robert of Frisco, Texas; granddaughter, Shea Gillian of Frisco, Texas; sister, Wanda Genell Cook of Durant, Oklahoma; nephews, Lewis Cook and wife Kellie of Chickasaw, Oklahoma and Robert Cook and wife Beth of Harrah, Oklahoma.

Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his parents, W.L. and Wanda Barnes.

Family Hour will from 6-7:00 PM Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma.

A Funeral Service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Durant with Bro. Darel Bunch officiating. Interment will follow at Bennington Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Clyde John, Cecil Sullivan, Jerry Shipp, Lewis Cook, Robert Cook and Bobby Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Lemmons, Tony Lemmons, William Lemmons and Don Williams.
