James Stevens Carman, a resident of Colbert, Oklahoma left this earthly life on Monday, February 6, 2017 at the age of 59 years 5 months and 12 days. He was born on August 24, 1957 in McAlester, Oklahoma to George and Jackie (Watson) Carman. James married Maria C. Puente in Albany, Oklahoma on September 27, 1986.
James was a member of the Western Meadows Baptist Church. He had a loving heart and liked to help others. James loved the quiet solitude of fishing, he also enjoyed: gun collecting, rebuilding old cars, bon-fires, working with his hands, and drinking a great cup of coffee. He retired from Durant Public Schools and continued working as handy man in Durant. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Mr. Carman is survived by his wife, Maria Carman of Durant, Oklahoma; daughter, Alina Hickman and husband Jon of Bellevue, Nebraska; grandchildren, Landon and Jack Hickman of Bellevue, Nebraska; brother, George Carman and wife Susan of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; sister, Christy Kirby and husband Ken of Ada, Oklahoma; mother, Jacqueline (Jackie) Carman of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, Zach and Katie Thompson of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Blake Carman and fiancé Haley Hudgins of Tennessee; uncle, Dyle Carman of Colorado; aunt, Nancy Mayberry and husband Clarence of Muskogee, Oklahoma; step-mother, Frances Carman of McAlester, Oklahoma; cousins, Dale and Linda Petkash of Colorado; and Joe and Annie Gavrich of Colorado; Susan Carman Janway of Texas; Jim and Jana Lampe of Texas and Guy and Cindy Mayberry of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Carman was preceded in death by his; father, George Franklin Carman; grandparents, James Dyle and Lourene Carman; grandparents, Jack and Christene Watson and aunt, Nadine Carman.
Family Hour will be from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Western Meadows Baptist Church on Friday, February 10th. A memorial service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday February 11th at the Western Meadows Baptist Church, 53 Shawna Drive, Durant, Oklahoma with Bro. Cole Newton officiating.
