Millicent Mae Youngbear (Cheyenne name: Indian Perfume) was born to Clinton Youngbear and Blossom Goodbear-Tallbear-Youngbear in Shiprock, NM on June 9, 1959. Millie was a citizen of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, and she was the 7th child of 12 siblings. Millie passed away on April 19, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 64.
Millie attended Watonga Public Schools, and she attended Ft. Sill Indian School in high school. Millie went on to graduate from Lawton MacArthur High School in 1977. After earning her high school diploma, Millie attended Rose State College and also Chisholm Trail Vo-tech where she earned a certificate in computer repair.
Millie held numerous job titles throughout her life. She worked as a drug and alcohol counselor for Opportunities, Inc. in Watonga, assistant for Cheyenne and Arapaho Legislator, Eddie Whiteskunk, for the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tax Commission, drop team member at the Comanche Spur Casino, and at the Comanche Nation Casino. She also worked at the Feather Warrior Casino and Lucky Star Casino in Watonga for over ten years. During those casino years, she was a Player’s Club supervisor and safety officer.
Millie loved to attend powwows, benefit dances, and ceremonies. You could usually find her sitting at the drum and singing at all the dances. She made many, many friends who she then claimed as brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, grandsons, granddaughters, aunts, and uncles. Millie played an active role in all her nieces’, nephews’, and grandchildren’s lives, and did her best to pass on the Cheyenne and Arapaho words she knew. She was known as Neške’e to all her grandchildren. She made sure to tell all her loved ones, “love you more,” each time she seen them. Millie loved all people of color, and taught her children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren that no matter how people treat you, you should always “kill them with kindness.”
Millie is survived by her children, Nathan Littlehawk and Kimmi Baca of El Reno, OK, and Darla Brown of Watonga, OK; her granddaughter, Ra’kael “Honeybear” Love, and grandsons, Alex Akoneto, Joey Oldbear, Teivon Ramos, Noah Scraper, Issac Scraper, and Gabriel Scraper; her brothers, Moses “Buddy” Tallbear, Jr. of Lodge Grass, MT, and Duke Youngbear of Watonga, OK,; her sisters, Lois “Jeanie” Youngbear of Oklahoma City, OK, and Bernice Youngbear of Watonga, OK, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and other adopted loved ones. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Rosie Touching Ground, mother, Blossom Goodbear, father, Clinton Youngbear, brother, Richard Tallbear, sister, Violet Rose Tallbear-Scraper, brother, Robert Goodbear, brother, Ted Youngbear; sister, Etta “Chico” Coyote Robe, brother, JR Youngbear, and sister, J’Shon Youngbear.
Millie’s all night wake service will be held at the Watonga Emergency Response Center on April 23, 2024, and the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Watonga Emergency Response Center on April 24, 2022. She will be interred at IOOF Cemetery in Watonga, OK. Pastor Waylon Upchego will be officiating, and Pierce Funeral Home in Canton, OK is attending.
