Louise "Joy" (Whitehead) Phillips

Louise "Joy" Phillips was born May 27, 1944, in Watonga, OK, to Melvin and Velva Lee (McKinsey) Whitehead. She was raised by Robert and Berndeam Whitehead Huff.

She was a life-long member of the First Christian Church of Watonga, OK. She was baptized as a child and graduated from Watonga High School and attended Southwestern State University in Weatherford, OK.

Joy married LeRoy Phillips on August 1, 1963, and together they have two daughters, Debie and Vonda. Joy babysat many children throughout the years for relatives and friends and was known by many as "Aunt Joy". Joy worked at the Elliott's Furniture for 24 years and on the Election Board for over 40 years until 2020. She was very active in all the school activities with the family. Joy enjoyed spending time and doing things for family and friends, yearly trips to Wyoming, and checking cattle with LeRoy at Eagle City. Joy was a member of the Watonga Fire Angels and yearly OCCA Children's Cancer Camp.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Gerald Daugherty and Robert Huff. Survivors include husband LeRoy of the home; daughters, Debie Mahaffey and husband Shannon and Vonda Compton and husband Kelly; grandchildren, Phillip Melott (Melia), Kacy Compton (Lori) and Joe Melott; great-grandchildren, Lawrence Melott, Little Joe Melott, Gray Davidson and Kaden Headrick.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2022, at Watonga Christian Church, with Pastor Adam Lovitt officiating. Interment will follow at the Watonga IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK. Memorials may be made to the Christian Church, with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
