ENID — Lucille Willie Gatewood was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Ragstown,
Okla., to Roe William and Maudie Lee Keenan and passed away
Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at the age of 93.
Lucille lived in Illinois for 16 years, then moved to Farmington,
N.M., and Colorado Springs, Colo.
In 1972, she became a resident of Greenfield, Okla., community.
Lucille attended Greenfield Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending
the women’s Bible
She was married to Elzie Gatewood at the age of 14 in Duncan, Okla.,
in 1932. Together, they shared 60 years of
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three
brothers, Homer, Archie and Red; two sisters, Lula and Reudean; and
three sons, Tommy, J.B. and Cotton.
Lucille is survived by one daughter-in-law, Lenore Gatewood of
Waukomis, Okla.; two brothers, Herman Keenan of Watonga, Okla., and
Joe Earl Keenan of Evansville, Ind.; two grandchildren, Mike
Gatewood and wife Diane of Winfield, Kan., and Pat Gatewood of
Waukomis, Okla.; three great-grandchildren, Melissa Bodkins and
husband Scott of Winfield, Kan., Scotty Gatewood and wife Kellie of
Winfield, Kan., and Stacey Gatewood of Winfield, Kan.; three
great-great-grandchildren, Zach Bodkins, Keylee Bodkins and Kelsi
Gatewood; and her loving companion and pet chihuahua, Cocoa.
The family would like to also give special thanks to Janice Hood,
Shirley Wiggington, Irene Neimeyer, and Doris Till for their special
care and love they gave to Lucille.
Funeral service for Lucille was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12,
2011, at Greenfield Baptist Church, Greenfield, Okla., with Rev.
Carroll Gilliland officiating. Burial followed in I.O.O.F. Cemetery,
Watonga, with Wilkinson Mortuary of Watonga in charge of
arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Greenfield
Baptist Church.
