Elizabeth Janette (Saunders) Eichling
October 20, 1921 ~ November 10, 2020

Elizabeth Janette (Saunders) Eichling was born October 20, 1921 to J.R. and Georgie Saunders in Shawnee, Oklahoma and died November 10, 2020 at the age of 99.

Janette grew up in Blanchard and earned a degree in Home Economics from the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. She taught school for two and a half years in Covington, Beggs and Blanchard and then moved to Corpus Christi, TX to work for an oil company and an insurance agency. The she returned to Oklahoma to work for Standard Oil of Indiana (Amoco) for five years in Oklahoma City and five years in Tulsa where she and her husband met. She married Joe Eichling in 1956 and to this union brought two daughters, Nancy and Sally were born.

Janette and Joe moved to Watonga and opened their Otasco store on June 18, 1960. They retired from their store at the end of 1989. Janette was a voluntary tutor for the Chris Smola Literacy Council, long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Watonga, The Kitchen Crew at the First United Methodist Church serving Friday lunch for the Watonga High School, PEO, Book Club, The Watonga Senior Citizens and Bridge Club. Janette enjoyed walking, gardening, playing scrabble, rooting for the OU Sooners and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In 2017 Janette left Watonga due to health reasons where she resided until her death in assisted living. She always considered Watonga her home and enjoyed receiving correspondence from her hometown friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters; Irene Klaeger, Nancy Shepard and Emily Jo Strong, one brother; J.L. Saunders and one sister-in-law; Helen Burke.

Janette is survived by:

Two daughters...Nancy and husband Frank Knox of Edmond, OK., Sally Eichling of Oklahoma City, OK

Two granddaughters…Whitney and husband Luke Green of Spring, TX, Taylor Knox of Oklahoma City, OK

Two great grandsons…Finley Green and John Luke Green.

Graveside services for Janette Eichling will be held Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Watonga with Pastor Dianna Matli officiating. Social distancing and masks will be required per request of the family. Arrangements by Wilkinson Mortuary of Watonga and Okeene. Online condolences can be made at wilkinsonmortuary.com. Memorial contributions may be made to the Watonga Hospital Auxiliary, the Watonga Senior Citizens or the First United Methodist Church of Watonga.
