Traditional all-night wake services for Vinita H. Sankey, 70, of rural Canton, Oklahoma will begin at 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Barefoot Park Pow-wow Grounds. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the same location with Rev. George Akeen, Jr. and Stewart Candy officiating. Interment will follow in the Sankey Family Cemetery. Immediately after the committal service a dinner will be held at the Canton Native American Gymnasium. The family extends a special invitation to all Cheyenne & Arapaho chiefs.
Vinita Helen Sankey was born March 30, 1949 at Clinton, Oklahoma to Arapaho chief Warren H. Sankey, Sr. and Olive Throwing Water. She departed this life early Tuesday morning, April 16, 2019 at her residence near Canton. Vinita attended school at Canton and graduated with the class of 1967. She also attended Oklahoma University and San Jose State University in California.
Vinita was preceded in death by her parents; son Jesse “Josh” Blind, III, three brothers, Warren Sankey, Jr., David H. Sankey and Marcel Sankey; and other family members. Survivors include her husband, Bill Blind of the home at Canton; two sons, Emerson Blind and Robin Blind, both of Canton; one brother, Arapaho chief Byron Sankey and wife Barbara of Canton; grandchildren Josh Spirit Blind, Lashonda Sankey, Xavier Cannon, Ambrose Cannon, Marcus Sankey, Isaac Vann, Bitko Sankey Garcia, Marcella Sankey, Irene Sankey and many other extended grandchildren. Cousins/sisters Olivia Vann-Tsatigh, Loretta Eakins and Alta Reyes. Condolences may be made online at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
