The funeral for Melvin Leroy Weinmeister, 79, of Okeene, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mennonite Brethren Church, Okeene. The Rev. Bennet Peters will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Okeene. Arrangements are by Wilkinson Mortuary of Okeene.
He was born Nov. 13, 1926, in Okeene to John and Elvena Weinmeister and died Friday, June 23, 2006.
He left Okeene following graduation from Okeene High School, living in various parts of the state working in the oil field. In 1957, he moved to Alva and worked for Alva State Bank until 1961. He then ran Alva Bowling Alley until 1963. He returned to work in the oil field until he moved to Dodge City, Kan., where he was shift foreman for Farmland Industry for 27 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Presbyterian Church of Alva, Moose Lodge in Dodge City, and Okeene Whippet Booster Club.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Weinmeister of Sioux City, Iowa, and Tim Weinmeister of Eddyville, Ky.; one daughter, Patty Weinmeister of Oklahoma City; a brother, Robert Weinmeister of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Berneice Winter of Okeene and Luella Childs of Seiling; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother and a sister.
Memorials may be made to Okeene Whippet Boosters Club.
