Charles Everett Nicholson

The funeral for retired Air Force Lt. Col. Charles Everett Nicholson, 79, of Tulsa, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Christ United Methodist Church, Tulsa. A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. in Roselawn Cemetery , Okeene. Arrangements are by Moore's Southlawn, Tulsa.

He was born April 5, 1930, in Blackwell to Harvey Everett and Willa Broadwater Nicholson and died Thursday, April 23, 2009.

He graduated from Blackwell High School in 1948 and from Oklahoma A&M in 1954, after attending the University of Oklahoma.

He was commissioned second lieutenant in the Air Force, serving more than 22 years before retiring in 1976. He was awarded Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and Air Medal with cluster. He served two tours in the Vietnam War.

He returned to Oklahoma in 1978 to manage the family farm in Okeene. He returned to OSU and completed a degree in agriculture. He was a member of Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. He was a charter pilot for Haworth Ranch and deputy director of Oklahoma Aeronautical Commission. He was instrumental in acquiring state and federal funds for land and construction easements for the airport in Okeene.

He was active in Oklahoma State University's Posse and O clubs and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 7203 in Okeene, serving as post commander. He earned an All State commendation award in 1981 and 1983. He was chairman of the Tulsa golf tournament, benefitting National Kidney Foundation, and Volunteer of the Year in 1999.

In 1986 he began work for Metropolitan LIfe Insurance Co., semi-retiring in 2003.

Surviving are two sons, Mark Nicholson of San Diego and Charles F. Nicholson of Indonesia; a daughter, J.B. Hunt of Key West, Fla.; two sisters, Sandra Kay Larsen and Jacqueline Welsh, both of El Paso, Texas; and five grandchildren.
