Okeene – The funeral for Devert W. Hastey, 82, will be 2 PM Thursday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Travis Hopper will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home. The casket will be open at the funeral home from 9 AM to 7 PM today and before services at the church Thursday.
He was born December 16, 1916, at Indidnopolis, south of Thomas, to William "Bill" and Nola Green Hastey and died Monday, October 18, 1999, at the Okeene Hospital.
He attended grade schools in Pleasant Hill, Thomas and Victory and graduated from Thomas high school. He served in the Army from 1943 until 1946.
In 1938, he married Opal Campbell. They lived in Okeene where he owned and operated the Champlin Service Station for 18 years. She died May 12, 1983.
In August 1986, he married Pauline Boyett Ellis. They lived in Okeene. She died April 14, 1999.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He also served on Okeene School Board, Okeene Hospital Board and Okeene Fire Department.
Surviving are one daughter, Beth Neagle of Woodward; stepchildren, Elma Huddleston of New Sweden, Maine, and Tom Ellis of Okeene; one brother, Ervin of Richmond, Virginia; and seven step – grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, one brother and one grandson.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Okeene Hospital Foundation, the Okeene Fire Department, Schallmo Assisted Living Center or the church.
