Marva Lea (Brogden) Gentry

Marva Lea Gentry died surrounded by loved ones peacefully at the Seiling Nursing Home on January 11, 2023 in Seiling, Oklahoma at the age of 98.

Marva is survived by her son Jackson Lee Gentry and wife Brenda Lee Gentry, 3 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, 26 great grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Oscar L. Gentry; son David Anthony Gentry; daughter Marva Sue Gentry; mother Ora Brogden; father Luther Brogden; baby sister Dorothy Loveless; big sister Emogene Kersey; two brothers Wayman Brogden, and Onis Brogden.

Marva was born on July 11, 1924, in Charlotte, Arkansas to Ora and Luther Brogden. She attended school in the Batesville/Charlotte area in Arkansas. Marva found the love of her life and married Oscar L Gentry in 1946. Oscar and Marva welcomed one child Jackson L. Gentry and welcomed Marva’s two previous children David Anthony Gentry and Marva Sue Gentry into their home which Oscar adopted as his own. Oscar and Marva were active in city services for many years. Her family remembers her as a kind, driven, ornery, chatty, consistent, and loving mother/grandmother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Marva was a generous, witty and dedicated individual who loved her family and was passionate about her grandkids. She was an active and dedicated member of the Madame Alexander doll collector’s organization for years, winning numerous awards and ribbons. Marva had a vast collection and love for her roosters. She loved telling stories and watching sports, mainly football and basketball. Marva loved spending every moment with her family up until the end.

A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Canton Christian Church, with a graveside to follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Okeene, Oklahoma. Keith Robinett will officiate the ceremony.

All are welcome to celebrate Marva's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Canton Firefighters Association with the funeral home serving as custodian at P. O. Box 36 Canton, OK 73724. Condolences may be made at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
