LONGDALE — Our beloved wife and mother, Earlene Jo "Sally" Wymer Oakley, left us to join her mother and father in Heaven on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010. She passed away at her home she so loved, surrounded by her husband and daughters of whom she was so proud.
Sally was the first born and only daughter of Earl Wymer and Grace Dowd Wymer. She was born June 7, 1928, in their home north and east of Longdale.
Sally graduated from Longdale High School in 1945. She then graduated from Enid Business School.
Sally married Keith E. Oakley in Cherokee on Aug. 14, 1948. They made their home and farmed southeast of Cherokee. Keith and Sally had three daughters, Keith Ann, Kay Dene and Kelly Jo. The family moved to Woodward in 1957.
While in Woodward, Sally worked for County Tax Assessors Office and as secretary at the junior high school. Her favorite job was as an interior designer for Ruttman Interiors, fulfilling her life long passion for interior design and fashion.
In 1993, Keith and Sally bought part of her family's farm, located northeast of Longdale, some of which had been homesteaded by her great and great-great-grandmothers in 1893. Keith and Sally moved their house from Woodward to this property, where they continue to ranch.
Sally was an active member of Longdale Gym Community Association, which was formed to convert the Longdale School Gymnasium into a community center. It is a very active center, bringing many events to the community, including the annual July 4th parade and celebration.
Sally also was an active member of Longdale Community Church, where she taught Sunday school until her eye sight no longer allowed her to do so.
Sally is survived by her husband of 63 years, Keith; daughters, Keith Ann Schaffner and husband Pip of Houston, Texas, Kay Dene Tamayo and husband Tony of Harlingen, Texas, and Kelly Jo Rickman and husband Rick of Tulsa; two grandsons, Ted Tamayo and Ben Rickman; brothers Duane Wymer and wife Peggy of Canton, Deane Wymer and wife Esther of Fairview, Larry Wymer and wife Betty of Edmond; several nieces and nephews; and her long time friend Mary Ann Thomas of Woodward.
Sally was a creative and interesting person, who brought style and beauty into our lives. She was mostly interested in people and had the ability to make each individual feel uniquely special. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. John Coyle of Tulsa Heart Center, whose excellent care gave Sally 16 more wonderful years; Dr. Jami Benton and the entire staff of Fairview Hospital, who provided personal tender care; and to the staff of Hospice Circle of Love, with whose loving and professional guidance, we were able to care for our mother in her home.
Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m. today at Nichols Funeral Home, 721 S. Main, Fairview. The service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at Longdale Gymnasium. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, located on the family ranch across the pond from Sally's home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sally's name through Nichols Funeral Home, P.O. Box 332, Fairview, OK 73737, specifying Hospice Circle of Love, Longdale Community Church, or Longdale Gym Community Association.
