Veta Marie (Pembrook) Thomas

Funeral Service for Veta Marie Thomas, 70, of Fairview, is schedules for 1:30 pm, Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the Cedar Springs Church of the Nazarene, Cedar Springs, Oklahoma, with burial in Longdale Cemetery following the service. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

Veta Marie (Pembrook) Thomas was born on Thursday, October 13, 1949 near Orion, Oklahoma on the farm to Walter and Minnie Belle (Lyons) Pembrook. She went to be with her Lord and Savior in the morning of Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the Fairview Fellowship Home, at the age of 70.

Veta attended school in Fairview until the 8th grade. She helped her parents care and raise her younger siblings, Veta was the third of seven children. Veta married James Alexander Thomas in Fairview Oklahoma on July 19, 1966 in the old Methodist Church. Born to this blessed union were three children. Marquetta Sue (Kitty), Jimmy Dale, and Brenda Kay. Jim and Veta made their home in Longdale in 1973.

Veta was a member of the Cedar Springs Church of the Nazerene for many years, where she as well taught Sunday School, worshiped with her children and helped with vacation bible school. Veta was also baptized at the Longdale First Baptist Church.

Veta was employed as a waitress for many years. Later in years, she became a care giver, she was a friend and cared for the late Augusta Specht until her passing and sold Avon for many years. Veta ended her working career at the Fairview Fellowship Home.

Veta loved to fish with her husband and children. She enjoyed helping with activities at school and church with her children. Veta and Jim raised a large garden where she canned many canned goods. She enjoyed spending time with all her family and her grandchildren and being involved in their activities as much as she could. Veta enjoyed shopping for new shoes, and clothing. Her favorite color was purple. She even painted her house purple at one time. She always enjoyed it when someone would bring her a box of Celia's Chocolate Covered Cherries.

Veta is preceded by her parents Walter and Minnie Pembrook, sister Marquetta (Kitty) May and Brother Danny Faye and adopted sister/friend Sugar.

Veta will be missed by many, including her lifetime companion and love of her life James Thomas of Longdale, children Kitty and Clyde McKinley of Longdale, Jimmy Dale and Wanita Thomas of Fairview and Brenda and Dwight Jackson of Longdale. Grandchildren Alan McKinley, Melissa Conrady, Sashia Pendelton, Donavan Thomas, Kyla Farr, Triston Morris, Sara Scholten, Whittley Norton, Bobbie Jackson, and Bryant Jackson, and fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, sister Connie and Paul Hinchey, brothers Jimmie and Karlene Pembrook, Billy and Michelle Pembrook, Jerry and Lucia Pembrook and sister in law Brenda Pembrook Johnson and numerous other family and friends.

On behalf of the family, we would like to thank all those of Fairview Fellowship Home Staff who have kindly been a part of our mother’s life and welcome you to come celebrate that life with us.
