Johnny Lee Coffey

Johnny Lee Coffey was born April 29, 1943 at Canton, OK to parents Frank Avery and Gladys Mildred (Benson) Coffey. He departed this life Thursday March 18, 2021.

He married the love of his life, Linda Sue (Slape) Coffey on June 30, 1963. They were happily married for fifty-three years. Johnny was a hard worker that went above and beyond for anybody. He started working at the age of thirteen at Sav-Mor Grocery, and he eventually made his way to working at United States Gypsum till retirement. Johnny served as a volunteer firefighter at the Canton Fire Department for twenty years. He enjoyed spending his time spoiling the grandchildren, being in the outdoors, going hunting, attending gunpowder shoots, tinkering, making leatherwork, and the occasional thrift shopping.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; wife Linda Coffey; two brothers Lonnie and Gene Coffey; he is survived by son Duane Coffey of Canton, OK; daughter Melinda Schoonmaker and husband James of Longdale, OK; three grandchildren, Justin Schoonmaker and wife Noemi of Canton, OK, Shania Wood and Mack of Longdale, OK, and Amanda Schoonmaker of Longdale, OK; one great-granddaughter Emily Schoonmaker of Canton, OK; sister Trilla Belyue and husband Jesse of North Plains, OR; and many other loving family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Longdale Cemetery with Keith Robinett officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK. Memorials may be made to the Canton Firefighters Association, the First Baptist Church of Canton and to the Cimarron Blackpowder Muzzleloaders with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724. Condolences may be made online at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
