The funeral for Percy E. Ashby, 72, Longdale, will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 16,
2009, at Canton Christian Church. Steve Driskill, pastor, will officiate. Burial
will be in Longdale Cemetery. Arrangements are by Redinger Funeral Home, Seiling.
Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the church.
He was born March 29, 1936, in Longdale to John Edward and Daisy Percy Ashby and
died Friday, March 13, 2009, at his home.
He was educated in Longdale schools. He entered the Army and served mostly in
Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1957 and returned home.
He married Mary Davis July 6, 1957, in Oakwood. They made their home in several
locations before moving to Longdale. He owned and operated Champlin Service
Station in Longdale for several years. Later he worked as a contract mower for
the Corps of Engineers. He worked for Blaine County District 2, driving a truck
and mowing for many years before retiring.
He was a member of Longdale Volunteer Fire Department, for which he served 20
years. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Okeene and a member
of Canton Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ashby, of the home; one daughter, Kathleen McClure
of Fairview; one son, Kenneth Ashby of Canton; two sisters, Jean Kimminau of
Hastings, Neb., and Emma Skinner of Edgar, Neb.; and one brother, Dennis Ashby
of Canton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Fairview Regional Medical
Center.
