LONGDALE - Graveside service for John Edward Ashby, 87, who died Wednesday at Fairview Fellowship Home, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Longdale Cemetery. The Rev. Matthew Beers will officiate. Arrangements are by Haigler Funeral Home in Canton.

He was born December 14, 1903 in Longdale and attended schools in that area. On Dec. 19, 1925, he married Daisy Percy at Longdale. He had worked for the railroad as a young man and later worked for the U.S. Gypsum plant at Southard, retiring in 1957. He also farmed. Due to ill health, he moved to Fairview Fellowship Home four years ago.

Surviving are three daughters, Almeta Larson and Emma Skinner, both of Edgar, Neb., and Jean Kimanaugh of Superior Neb.; two sons, Percy and Dennis, both of Longdale; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1982, one son, four brothers and three sisters.
