Albert Stanley Garman was born June 27, 1943 on the family farm in Dewey County. He attended school at Fairview and Longdale. After graduation he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served over two years in Germany. When Al came home he began working for Helmerich & Payne Oil Company. He was proud of the fact he worked for them for close to 40 years, beginning at the bottom and working as a driller, tool pusher and eventually drilling superintendent. After retirement he spent many years remodeling his home and doing lots of fishing with Terry.
Then Al met the love of his life. Sondra was a blessing to him, and they traveled and were ready to go again, they just hadn’t decided where and when. Al will be missed by lots of people, especially his family and Sondra. He was loved by many. Al departed this life on Thursday, January 20, 2022.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Calvert Sr. and LaRene (Grabow) Garman Cook; sisters Louise and Wilma; brothers Calvert Jr. and Gerald; Survivors include his special friend, Sondra Shoemaker of Longdale, OK; one sister, Mary Lou Dow of Bartlesville, OK; one brother, Gary Garman of Stigler, OK; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the Canton Christian Church with Pastor Scott Maloney and Pastor Michael Grigsby officiating. Interment will follow at Homestead Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
