(July 14, 1934 - May 31, 2009)

Funeral services for Harold Wesley Day, 74, Canton, will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m., June 2, 2009, at Canton First Baptist Church with Harold Hook and Ray Schoonmaker officiating. Burial will follow at the Homestead Cemetery under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK. Harold was born at Chester, OK, on July 14, 1934, to Harry L. and Viola (Hatter) Day and died May 31, 2009, at his home in Canton.

Harold's mother died at his birth, and he went to live with his grandparents, Tom and Nina Hatter near Fay. At the age of five, he went to live with his father and stepmother, Arlene. The family first lived in Fairview, later moving to farms in the Canton area. Harold started school at Con Six, then went to Canton for several years, and graduated from Longdale High School in 1952. While in high school, he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball.

Harold and Joyce Cravens were married Oct. 12, 1953, at Fairview, OK. After graduation, Harold worked for Gene Phillips at his Conoco service station, then in Gene's Appliance. Harold served in the United States Army from 1957-1959, stationed at Killeen, TX. In 1962, he started working at the Bank of Canton as a teller, moving up to Executive Vice President and CEO, retiring in 2000.

Harold was active in school and community events. He served on the Canton Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was a member of the Canton Lion's Club, Chamber of Commerce, and was one of the five founders of the Walleye Rodeo. Harold coached little league baseball, and worked with almost every community project over the years including the Longdale Gym Association as well as helping with the construction of the new addition on the First Baptist Church. He missed very few of the school events his children were in, and really enjoyed attending his grandsons' baseball and football games, as well as watching Abby practice her swimming.

Harold loved camping, traveling, hunting, fishing, and especially meeting new people from across the country while he and Joyce spent their winters in Rockport, TX. He attended Canton First Baptist Church.
