Funeral for A. H. (Al) Carter, 70, Waukomis, was at 2 PM today in the Waukomis Christian Church with Rev. Thomas Hobby officiating. Burial was in the Homestead Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
He died Friday, January 27, 1984, in an Enid hospital following a lengthy illness.
Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research, Leukemia Division, with the funeral home serving as custodian.
He was born September 1, 1913, in Homestead to Calvin S. And Lula B. Roat Carter. He moved to Enid with his parents at an early age. He attended school in Enid.
In 1933 he married Nora Belle Bonham. She preceded him in death, as well as seven brothers, a sister and a grandson.
On January 4, 1941, he married Ruby Heffel. The couple lived in Enid a short time and have made their home in Waukomis 37 years. He worked for Hackney Iron and Steel as a salesman for 21 years, Vance Air Force Base as an aircraft inspector for five years and then was a barber in Waukomis for 15 years, retiring in 1977.
He was a past member of Odd Fellows Lodge and in 1958 became a member of the Waukomis Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby, of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Betty) Bagshaw, Canby, Oregon, Mrs. Bill (Barbara) Baker, Modesto, California, and Mrs. John (Patricia) Camp III, Waukomis; two sons, Richard D. Carter, Okeene and Jimmie D. Carter, St. Joseph, Missouri; 14 grandchildren and seven great – grandchildren.
