Rachel E. Coulter, was born in Washington County, Indiana, March 20, 1851, and died at Cherokee, Oklahoma March 15, 1916, being 64 years, 11 months, and 25 days of age.
At the age of 18 years she was married to B. L. Packard in Appanoose County, Iowa and later moved to Kansas.
To this union were born five children: Loren Packard who died four years ago at Helena, Oklahoma; Mrs. Simpson of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; Mrs. Henry Duncan, Cherokee, Oklahoma; W. E. Packard, Hydro, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Eakins of Hydro, Oklahoma.
Her husband preceded her to the great beyond having died October 9, 1914 at his home south of Hydro.
Mrs. Packard united with the Christian Church 30 years ago in Sumner County, Kansas and has sincerely been an obedient disciple of her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was devoted to her church. One of her last requests was that her body be brought to the church and remain in the church overnight. Her wishes were carried out.
The funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church at Hydro March 17th by Ray L. Boyer, former pastor of the Hydro Christian Church but now at Weatherford.
Burial was made in the Masonic Cemetery.
Note from Submitter: Rachel E. Coulter Packard was the daughter of Isaiah Coulter and Mary Ann Monical Coulter. They moved from Indiana to Appanoose County, IA., near Centerville, where she met and married Benonia L. Packard, July 15, 1869.
The son, Loren S. Packard (1870-1912) married Leah C. Coffield. The other son, Walter E. Packard (1879-1946) married Myrtle E. Ferquein. The daughters were: Lettie R. Packard (1872-1947) married Henry H. Simpson; Ethel L. Packard (1876-1954) married Henry Duncan; Nora L. Packard (1886-1936) married Logan Eakins.
