Shirley Elaine (Hoffman) Smoot was born March 18, 1939, on the family farm outside of Canton in Dewey County, to Albert and Blanche (Anderson) Hoffman, and passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the age of 84.
Shirley was a resident of the Fay, Eagles City, Canton, and Watonga communities throughout her life. She attended Con 6 School in Canton, Oklahoma, and then attended and graduated from Fay high school in 1957. She married Darl Smoot at Canton, Oklahoma, on August 4, 1957.
Shirley was a homemaker, but also worked for Hoberecht Abstract until 1965, as well as TG&Y in Watonga, Oklahoma. She helped farm for years, continuing to ride along for farming jobs even after she couldn’t help as much. Shirley was also an avid bowler at Watonga Lanes from 1957 until 2000, bowling in the Wednesday night mixed league.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Blanche Hoffman; her husband, Darl Smoot; her brother, Charles Hoffman, and her brother-in-law, Bruce Smith.
She is survived by:
One son………………………………….. Glenn Smoot, and wife Tammy, of Fay, Oklahoma.
One daughter…………………………. Gayla Holsapple of Taloga, Oklahoma.
Two sisters……………………………… Betty Slape, and husband Dwight of Fairview, Oklahoma and Alma Smith of Yukon, Oklahoma.
Four grandchildren………………. Brandon Holsapple, and wife Catherine, of Bixby, Oklahoma, Travis Holsapple of Knoxville, Tennessee, Shelby Smoot-Troyer, and husband Jonathan, of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Cory Holsapple of Owasso, Oklahoma.
Two Great-grandchildren……….. Kaitlyn and Brooklyn Holsapple.
As well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Eagle City Christian Church, in Eagle City, Oklahoma with Pastor Monte Michaelson officiating. The burial will follow at the Eagle City Cemetery with Wilkinson Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
