Robert Melvin “Pete” Herod, 90, of Canton, Oklahoma, departed this life with comfort and peace on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. Pete was born on August 8, 1934, in Canton, Oklahoma, to Robert Edward Herod and Charity Carol (Stoner) Herod.

He grew up in and attended school in Canton, Oklahoma. He married Yvonne “Bonnie” Rae Long on October 3, 1952. After graduation, they moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma, where he attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and graduated from the School of Pharmacy. Pete and Bonnie raised four boys while traveling from city to city opening pharmacies for Walgreens. Once the location was established, they would move to another city to open a new location. During those years they lived in Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma. In the early 1970s, they moved back to Canton to help take care of Pete’s dad. It was the perfect place to start a business of his own. He and Bonnie opened Herod Drug where they worked together helping Canton and surrounding communities with its pharmaceutical needs. Pete loved the Lord and loved helping people. He was an active member of and an ordained minister in the Community of Christ Church. He served as an EMT for the Canton EMS for many years. Pete established the local AA group and served as an accountability partner to many attendees. He overcame many hardships during his lifetime by staying positive and was a wonderful example to his family, his church and his friends. Pete was loved by all who knew him. The family appreciates all the love and support you’ve shown the Herod family over the years.
