Merle Eugene Wanzer, 91 of Okeene, departed this life on Monday, November 2, 2020. Merle was born in Loyal, OK on June 3, 1929 to Clarence Albert Wanzer and Martha Pearl (Pederson) Wanzer. He attended Hitchcock School, graduating in 1947. On May 29, 1954, he married Mary Sykes in Okeene, OK. Merle worked for USG for 30 years and Mayor of Hitchcock for ten years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Melvin Wanzer and one sister; Erma Schneider.
He was the proud father of three daughters, Connie Biggs (Curtis) of Seiling, OK, Debbie Biggs (Wayne) of Stillwater, OK, Lu Ann Boeckman (Mark) of Okeene, OK. He is grandfather to six grandchildren, Cathy Biggs, Barry Hays (Annie), Beth Ronspiez (Jeremy),
Andrew Boeckman (Celeste), Jennifer Outhier (Thad), Amy Biggs, eleven great grandchildren, Jordan Bodin, Gage Ronspiez, Hannah Hays, Lane Ronspiez, Leah Hays, Gabe Biggs, Aidan Biggs, McKinley Outhier, Lucas Boeckman, Nathaniel Outhier, Carley Boeckman and two great-great granddaughters; Lilee Ronspiez and Aurora Bodin.
Merle was an avid Oklahoma Sooner football fan. His love of flying was only topped by his love of his family. He was a trusted and loving friend to all who knew him. He was baptized at an early age and was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Watonga, OK.
Funeral services for Merle will be held Friday, November 6, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Watonga. Burial will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Hitchcock, OK.
