Vera Jane (Nickel) Cook
March 18, 1929 ~ December 18, 2021

Celebration of Life Service for Vera Jane (Nickel) Cook (92) will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, OK. Burial will follow in Okeene, OK, Collins Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

Viewing will be Monday, December 27, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home.

Vera Jane (Nickel) Cook was born on March 18, 1929, at the family home in Orienta, Oklahoma, to John P. and Lydia (Janzen) Nickel. She passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Bellevue Nursing Home in Oklahoma City.

As she was growing up, Vera attended Orienta School and worked hard on the farm with her parents. She attended the Saron Mennonite Church of Orienta with her family. On December 31, 1949, she married Robert (Bob) Lee Cook. She moved to Okeene where Bob farmed. They were blessed with three children, Mike, Nancy and Pam. Once the kids became older, she worked for the Okeene Annex as a nurse's aid. She enjoyed being around people, working and having her own money. She enjoyed yearly birthday parties with family and family reunions. Vera was known for playing piano by ear and entertaining whenever a piano was around.

In 1987, Bob and Vera moved to Enid, Oklahoma, as Bob semi-retired from the farm. In January, 1990, Bob passed away. Vera lived in her home for the next 27 years surrounded by wonderful neighbors. In 2014, she entered the Assisted Living Floor of the Golden Oaks Retirement Facility. She enjoyed being around people.

Surviving are a son, Mike Cook of Yukon, OK; two daughters, Nancy and her husband Steve Nelson, Edmond, OK, Pam and her husband John Lunnon; two grandchildren, Parker and Tray Nelson; two sisters, Bonnie Rader, Edmond, OK, and Ann Karban, Del City, OK.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, and her husband.
