Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Longdale with interment at Cherryvale Cemetery.

Georgia Louise (Nelson) Martin was born on July 25, 1932 at Southard, Oklahoma to George and Fannie (Butler) Nelson. She departed this life on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Norman, Oklahoma due to complications of congestive heart failure and vascular dementia.
Georgia attended school at Southard and graduated with the class of 1950. She married Leon Martin on June 7, 1950 at the Blaine County Courthouse in Watonga, Oklahoma. Georgia and Leon lived in various towns in Oklahoma before settling in Grand Junction, Colorado in 1970 where they lived until they moved to Longdale, Oklahoma in 1981. It was there that she not only established a home for her family, but also became one of the charter members of the First Baptist Church of Longdale; she was also the church treasurer for many years. Georgia was elected city clerk of Longdale in 1984 and served until she retired in 1999. She and Leon continued to live in Longdale until they moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 2014. In 2016 she and Leon moved in with their son George and his wife Wendy where she received extensive daily care by them and Wendy's sister Jaime Womack of Norman, Oklahoma.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Osbern Nelson and wife Hilda, Olis Nelson and wife Elizabeth, Orman Nelson and wife Faye, Verdon Nelson and wife Anna, Gerald Nelson and wife Leona, and one sister, Vonda Grothe and husband Albert. She is survived by her husband of 68 years Leon Martin; one son, George Martin and wife Wendy of Norman, Oklahoma, a lot of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was a friend to many members of the Longdale and Canton communities.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Longdale, Oklahoma with Pastor Lucas White officiating. Interment will follow in Cherryvale Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Longdale or the Cherryvale Cemetery Association with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
