Lawrence Birdshead, 83, of Carlton, OK passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023. He was born December 10, 1939 at Concho, OK to parents Joseph Jess and Rose (Tallbear) Birdshead. He attended Canton Public School in Canton, Oklahoma. He worked as a farm hand on Arapaho Ranch in Hamilton Dome, Wyoming. He later moved back to Oklahoma where he became a bus driver for the Canton School and lived the rest of his life in Carlton, Oklahoma. He also was a member of the Native American Church of Oklahoma.
Lawrence is survived by his daughter Susan Cummings of Durango, CO; son Doug (Susie) Urban of Casper, WY; daughter Moosey (John) Goljenboom of Putnam, OK; daughter Sharon Birdshead (Mark Hafner) of McLoud, OK.; sisters, Frances Bates, and Myrlie Hawk; brothers, Clifford, Laverne, Sterling Birdshead; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Jess Birdshead and Rose Tall Bear Birdshead, his wife Wanda Walker Birdshead. Sons Anthony Sr. and Kenny Birdshead. His brothers Earl LeBeau, Marvin Whiteshirt, Charles Birdshead Sr., Ralph Birdshead Sr., baby brother Amick Birdshead, Joseph Birdshead, and sister Tommie Rose (Birdshead) Cravit.
The wake service will begin at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the Canton
ERC. When the wake concludes at the gym, the family and friends will gather at
the Birdshead home near Carlton for an all-night wake. Funeral services will be
held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the Canton ERC with interment to
follow at the Canton Reinterment (Chiefs) Cemetery near Canton Lake. Condolences
