Georgia Mae (Sutton) Roberts

May 2, 1948 ~ November 16, 2010

Georgia Mae Sutton Roberts was born May 2, 1948 to Arapaho Chief Harry Arthur Sutton and Sallie Blackbear Sutton at Clinton, Oklahoma. She departed this life on November 16, 2010 at OU Medical Center after a long illness. She attended Canton High School, then married Earl L. "Bud" Roberts. They made their home south of Canton, Oklahoma.

Georgia is survived by five children; Erlene Carson, Terri Roberts, Greg Roberts and wife Leilani, Justin Roberts, Monica Allen and step-daughter Geraldine McGuinness and husband Dan; her grandchildren, Stephen Carson, Lauren Langston and husband Cory, Matthew Carson, Jessica Gotch, Charity Robertson, Rebecca Roberts, Noah Roberts, Sidney Jackson, Erin Shortman, Brandon, Brittany, and Michael McGuinness, D.D. Thompson, Levi Shaw, J.P. Pullen; great-grandson Jarrett Cash Carson; brothers, Arapaho chiefs Billy Sutton and Allen Sutton; sisters, Viola Sutton Hatch, Nancy Sutton, Lavonta Sutton Kenrick, Charlene Sutton Lime, Wilda Sutton Gould, Ava Sutton Benson, and Marcella Sutton Armijo; sisters-in-law, Letha Moore and husband Warren, Dorothy Royalty and husband Eddie, Linda Hiatt; brother-in-law John L. Roberts and wife Pearl; and many beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband Earl “Bud” Roberts, her parents, brother Arthur Warren Sutton, sisters Cora Sutton Scabbyhorse Querdibitty and Patricia Sutton Walker. She enjoyed going to powwows, playing cards with family and friends, playing handgame and was a member of the Arapaho Nation handgame team. Georgia traveled many times to Ethete, Wyoming for the Arapaho sundance ceremony held every year. Her husband Bud was a truck driver and they traveled the nation together.

A wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the Canton Native American Community Center. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Canton School Multi-Purpose Building with Pastor Harold Hook and Brother Donnie Ahhaitty officiating. Interment will follow in Canton Indian Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK. Condolences can be made online at www.haiglerpierce.com.
