Frank "Butch" Medicine Bird, Jr., 61, of rural Canton, OK departed this life on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Oklahoma City, OK surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 31, 1954 at Clinton, OK to Frank and Ethelyn (Behan) Medicine Bird.

Frank attended Chilocco Indian School and had worked for the U.S. Forestry Service as a firefighter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool and working on cars.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joe Medicine Bird and Gerald Medicine Bird; and two sisters, Frankie Medicine Bird Hail and Willene Medicine Bird; Survivors include his wife, Christy of Canton, OK; one step-son, Timothy Scott of Canton, OK; brother Murray Medicine Bird of Geary, OK; sister Myra Medicine Bird of Canton, OK; sister Fran Wilson of Geary, OK; sister Edwina Whiteman of Geary, OK; brother Kerwin Medicine Bird of Watonga, OK; adopted sons, J.R. Penner and Clint Wagner; mother and father-in-law Norma and James Scott of Canton, OK;

Wake services will begin at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Canton Native American Gymnasium. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 6, 2016 at the same venue with Rev. Gerald Panana and Rev. Donnie Ahhaitty officiating. Interment will follow in the Cantonment Cemetery west of Canton under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.
