Graveside services for Scottie Sankey, 54, of Canton, OK will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2021 at Canton Cemetery with Reverend Jim Scott officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK.
Scottie Sankey was born July 23, 1966 at Clinton, OK to Arapaho Chief Alonzo and Margaret (Red Cherries) Sankey. He departed this life on February 27, 2021 at Oklahoma City, OK.
Scottie grew up in the Carlton area where he and his brothers and sisters explored and played in the country on their family's land. He attended Canton Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1984. Scottie served as an Arapaho Chief, just as his dad Alonzo and grandfather Robert Sankey Sr. had done. Scottie had high respect and honored his traditional Arapaho ways. He and his family traveled every Summer to Wyoming for the Arapaho Sundance. Scott loved his family and friends very much but he had a great love for his daughter Hazel. They were everywhere together. Scott was a devoted OU Sooner fan. He loved attending football games. Scott worked at Food Distribution in Watonga for many years, as well as Diamondback CCA, and in the oil field industry.
Scottie was preceded in death by his Grandparents Arapaho Chief Robert Sankey and Madeline Sankey, his parents, three sisters Angie, Alondra, and Trudi. Survivors include his wife Candi Sankey, daughter Hazel Sankey, sisters Danette Hook and husband Harold, Annette Bober, and Lanette Coffee, his brothers Corbin Sankey, Garen Sankey, Byron Sankey and wife Barbara, Winslow Sankey, Jr., adopted mother Laverne White, brother-in-law Leo Runearth, sisters-in-law Brandi Kidd and Iona Bouchard and husband Don, numerous nephews Leo Bober Jr., Clayton Sankey and Brandon Hamilton, nieces Stephanie C' Hair and husband Jarred, Tasha Sankey, Keiyonna Sankey, Gina Chavis, Sigourney Sankey, and Stacie Sankey, his Wyoming grandchildren and great-grandson, his Watonga Food Dist. Family, his bosses/friends Winona Youngbird and Bruce Whiteman, his Sutton/Hatch families, his Arapaho and Cheyenne Chief families, among other numerous family, friends, and relatives.
