Imogene (Seifried) Phillips
(July 29, 1923 - September 23, 2014)

Imogene (Seifried) Phillips was born July 29, 1923 to Ruth and Andy Seifried on the family farm near Canton, OK. She passed into Eternal Life on September 23, 2014. She grew up surrounded by a large family of seven siblings, and her family remained the center of her life and love.

Imogene attended school and graduated from Con 6. She played basketball and loved to dance. She was courted by Gene Phillips and they married in May of 1941. He was her lifelong love and partner. Imogene kept their farm going when Gene was called to active duty soon after they were married. Her little sister, Lucille, lived with Imogene and was a great help.

Gene and Imogene had two children, LaVena and LaVern. They moved into Canton and eventually opened an appliance and furniture store on Main Street, "Gene's Appliances." Imogene ran the store and kept accounts while Gene did the service calls. They stayed very busy with their business, LaVena and LaVern, the First Baptist Church, extended family, and school and community activities.

Four grandchildren were welcomed, Kimberly and John Day and Natalie and Joe Phillips. Better grandparents could not be found. Imogene's circle of love extended to LaVena's husband, Terry Day and LaVern's wife, Marcia Phillips; and to Natalie's husband, Andy Richardson and Joe's wife, Sarah Miles Phillips; and to three great grandchildren, Julia, Drew, and Patrick Richardson.

Imogene was called to be a caregiver all through her years. She diligently cared for her parents and siblings as any need arose. She cared for her dear husband, Gene, through his ten year illness until his passing in 1997.

Imogene kept a beautiful comfortable home and always had a pot of coffee on for guests. She tended her yard, flowers, and gardens, and she loved going out to the farm. Working outside was her favorite thing to do. She thrived on work and caring for others. Imogene was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her precious grandchildren, Kimberly and John Day, her parents, and her siblings. Her family has truly been blessed by her life and her love. We know God needs a gardener and caregiver in his heavenly Kingdom.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Canton with Reverend Mike McReynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church, 301 W. Poplar, Canton, OK 73724. Condolences may be made online at www.haiglerpierce.com.
