Jean Parkhurst
(September 29, 1932 - August 8, 2010)
Bobbie Jean Parkhurst, daughter of Thurman "Bub" and Frances Mildred (Pitcock) Moody, was born September 29, 1932 at Marlow, Oklahoma. She departed this life on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at her home in Canton at the age of 77 years. She was known to her family and friends as “Jean” and she was raised and educated in Stephens County. She was united in marriage to Jimmie Eugene Parkhurst on May 3, 1948 at Hammon. They made their first home at Hammon where Jimmie was engaged in farming. Later, they moved to Cheyenne, then Butler and later to Oakwood where they continued to farm and raise their three daughters: Johnnie Lou, Ruth Ann and Patty Marie. In 1960, Jimmie took the job as police chief for the City of Canton and the family moved to Canton where they continued to live and Jimmie served as police chief until 1973. Jean operated a day care in her home in Canton from 1972 to 1998. Many of her now grown kids still refer to her as “Grandma Jean”. She was a faithful member of the Canton Christian Church. She is survived by her three daughters: Johnnie Jones and husband Larry and Ruth Stephens and husband Larry both of Canton and Patty Chaloupek and husband Terry of Longdale; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; three sisters: Fay Montgomery of Amarillo, TX, Jane Lamle and husband Richard of Hitchcock and Mary Lou Van Pelt and husband Jerry of Beloit, KS; one brother: Thurman Moody and wife Wanda of Austin, TX; two step brothers: Melvin Parkhurst and wife Deann of Cheyenne and Robert Parkhurst and wife Nadine of Duncan, one sister-in-law: Juanice Parkhurst of Cheyenne and she is also survived by many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jimmie October 9, 1989; one son: Michael Eugene, two granddaughters, one great grandson, one sister, one step sister and one step brother. Memorials may be made to the Canton Christian Church with the funeral home serving as custodian.
