Clara Martha Nelson
(December 6, 1924 - November 22, 2015)

The funeral service for Clara Martha Nelson, 90, of Canton, OK, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Canton Christian Church with Steve Driskill and Pastor Justin Brodie officiating. Interment will follow in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.

Clara was born on December 6, 1924 at the family home in rural Dewey Co., Oklahoma west of Canton to Henry and Laura (Baird) Seifried. She departed this life on November 22, 2015 at Okeene, OK. Clara was born during a blizzard on the family farm five miles west of Canton. She was not expected to live but proved everyone wrong and lived a long and fruitful life. Clara attended Con-6 and Canton Schools. She owned and operated a beauty shop and variety store in Canton. She was a member of the Canton Christian Church for 62 years. Clara was instrumental in the restoration of the Grand Theater and was a charter member of Grand Arts Council of Canton.

Loved by her family and friends she was always working on a project either in her home or for the Grand Theater. Mom's favorite saying has always been " hard work never hurt anyone". With her "bright red hair" and her zest for life she will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Neil Nelson; husband Calvin F. Nelson; two sisters, Lavina Gundlach and Virginia Fuqua; and one brother, Chester Seifried; Survivors include one daughter, Judy Long and husband Keith of Canton, OK; one daughter-in-law, Mary Nelson of Enid, OK; three grandchildren, Monica Boettler and husband John of Canton, OK, Damon Long of Canton, OK and Nicole White and husband Josh of Enid, OK; three great-grandchildren, Conner Boettler and Callie Boettler of Canton, OK and Walter White of Enid, OK; Memorials may be made to the Canton Christian Church or the G.A.C.C. with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O.
