Wilma Joan Murray was born to Welcome and Florene (Koen) Grinstead on August 15, 1943 in Oakwood, OK. She departed this life on July 26, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Watonga, OK.
Joan attended school at Southard and then to Canton where she graduated in 1961. She married Frank Murray on April 22, 1960 in Canton. She lived in the Canton area until she passed. Joan worked at the Canton Public Schools, lunchroom for a number of years before retiring. To their marriage, 3 children were born, Sandra, Mike and Billy.
Joan was very active in the Canton Christian Church and served as Sunday School teacher and helped with Vacation Bible School and various Youth Groups for many years. She was also Director of the Church’s funeral dinner program.
Joan is survived by daughter Sandra and husband Dean Cavett of Canton, son Mike and wife Donnita Murray of Canton, son Billy and wife Sandy Murray of Kingfisher. She is also survived by the following grandchildren: Darren and wife Amanda Cavett, Brad Murray, Brent Murray, Joanie and husband Cole Koos, Jason Murray, Emily Murray and fiancé Blane Hauser, and Kara Murray. Joan was also blessed with the following great grandchildren: Baustin Prather, Carson Cavett, Grant Koos, Kason Doak, Kyler Koos, Cambree Cavett, Cashion Murray, Charli Murray and Kade Murray. Brother-in-law Virgil Murray and wife Renee and brother-in-law Jackie Roach. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and was especially close to Marci Sutton Armijo, Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by husband Frank Murray, parents Welcome and Florene Grinstead, sister Sharon Roach, sister Gerry Harding, and brother Gerald Grinstead.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the Canton Christian Church with Pastor Michael Grigsby officiating. Interment will follow at Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK. Memorials may be made to the Canton Christian Church with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724. Condolences may be offered at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
