William Marshall McGahen was born to Bob and June (Goode) McGahen on June 28, 1948, in Enid, Oklahoma. God called him home on December 8, 2023.
Bill grew up in Canton, OK, and graduated from Canton High School in 1966. He was recognized during his Senior year as having the “Prettiest Eyes”. During his high school years, he worked for Houston Edsel at the Sinclair gas station. Later, Bill ran the projector at the Grand Theater, prompting his continuing love of movies. He had a huge collection of movies of all types, and would often ask Linda, “Do you want to watch a movie?”, to which she would answer, “Sure!”, and many hours were spent watching their favorite movies, sometimes over and over!
Bill attended OSU, and then transferred to SWOSU, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in 1970. After college, Bill traveled as a salesperson for Atlantic Richfield. In 1972, Bill’s son, Jeff, was born. In 1982, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Linda (Haigler) McGahen, and moved to Ringwood. Many happy hours were spent with their children, Lori and Jeff, who loved everything from jumping on the trampoline to swing dancing in the living room! Bill was so proud of his kids!
They later moved to Canton, where they took over the family farm after Linda’s parents passed away. Bill also worked for Jensen’s in Fairview where he made many life-long friends. He ended his career working at CCA, a privately owned prison in Sayre, OK, where he taught computer skills to prisoners. Bill showed his students kindness and respect, and was very serious about preparing them for a good life after they left the facility.
Bill was known as the “computer guy” in Canton. He drove all over Oklahoma in his bright yellow Camaro, which he nicknamed “Bumblebee”, always with a trunkload of computer parts, just in case someone needed help with a computer!
Bill has been a member of the Canton Christian Church since 1982 when he and Linda were married and Bill was baptized. He served as a deacon, led worship on Sunday morning, and was a faithful choir member for over 40 years.
He was a member of the Canton Masonic Lodge and served many times as Worthy Patron of the Canton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
After a 2 year battle with ALS, Bill moved on to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his son, Jeff, and countless friends and family members who went on before him.
Bill is survived by his wife, Linda, daughter Lori Holmquist (Rolf), grandchildren Brandon Holmquist (Samantha), Heather Bonin (Todd), Megan Sabini (Michael); sister Pat Baccus (Dale); niece Kim Stutzman (Aaron), nephews Mike Baccus (Valerie), Matthew Baccus (Hannah). Niece Gloria Starr, nephews Randy Haigler (Paula), Ray Haigler (Colleen), Dean Haigler (Dawnna), Jim McGinn (Karla). Niece Kay Harris. Numerous great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
